A landmark public square that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Ghirardelli Square is a major tourist destination in San Francisco that includes eight distinct historic buildings.
While it’s a popular tourist attraction, the property, and its various buildings, was hard to navigate. My task: create a cohesive way finding and branding system but do so in a way that would still meet the significant design restrictions imposed on such a historic property. The final solution clearly brands each distinct building within the complex, as well as provides over 200 way finding signs throughout the sprawling mix of structures.
